Search Volume Trends
The first step to a successful (SEO) search engine optimisation campaign starts with Keyword or KeyPhrase selection. Each market place differs and finding what potential customers are typing in to search engines is the most important stage - If you select the wrong keyword or phrase then ultimately your web site will suffer from a low conversation rates leading to a negative SEO program.
Most companies successfully working online, would agree that life would be much simpler if Google released search volumes for specific keywords or phrases, however in reality search engines keep this type of information very guarded, and those that do publish results tend to use strange formula’s or just pick ridiculous visitor volumes that will only confuse you.
From past experience, we always advise clients to use low figures to base any financial returns, this way clients are normally delighted with the actual results.
To this date we have not worked with any company that experiences millions of clients every month and we would suggest caution if these are the figures you believe the internet will bring.
Good news however. The internet will most likely give you the largest targeted audience your company has ever experienced.

A good place to start working on anticipated search volumes would have to be Googles own application. www.google.com/trends

With Google Trends, you can compare the world's interest in your favorite topics. Enter up to five topics and see how often they've been searched on Google over time. Google Trends also shows how frequently your topics have appeared in Google News stories, and in which geographic regions people have searched for them most” Taken from Google Trends.

Google trends will show search patterns over a given period of time for selected keywords or phrases. Similar to Googles main search, you simply type in the keyword or phrase you wish to analyze. You can add multiple words by separating the two keywords or phrases with a comma (,). Example Click here
At the bottom of your first search using Google trends, make sure that you swap the geographical area to the correct country.
Unfortunately this still only produces a graphical representation with no actual figures, to base your business plan from.
